"LG Electronics currently has the widest range of PDP screens in the Middle East and the Flatron KK brings yet another dimension to the line up," said Mr. P. C. Choi, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE. "With the region having a high up take of new technology, our sales expectations are highly optimistic.

"The brightness and contrast ratios are outstanding and with all the other award winning features of the screen, LG has yet another dynamic product to offer customers in the Middle East."

The 'Flatron KK' PDP TV at 1,000 candela, is the world's brightness screen with the highest contrast ratio of 1000:1. The screen was the recent recipient of the 'Red Dot' design prize, to which companies and designers from all over the world submit products for one of the coveted awards.

An independent jury of well-known international experts selects well designed products from a large number of entries for the distinction of the 'Red Dot', a seal of quality known and respected world wide. Products that impress the jury with particularly outstanding design quality are eligible for the 'Red Dot' - 'best-of-the-best' award.

"Design features that helped the Flatron KK screen win the award included the contrast and brightness ratios along with its slim design, split-zoom, flexible picture-in-picture (PIP) and flexible twin picture functions and the ability for the screen to be used in a vertical as well as horizontal plane," said Choi.

Split zoom is a function that divides and enlarges from two to nine input images in regular ratios. The function also allows for a video wall to be built without using any external splitting software or hardware.

Flexible PIP allows a small review screen inserted into the normal main screen image allowing the viewer to monitor another channel or input while watching the main screen. The twin picture function allows two inputs to share the screen at one time.

"The screen's stylish, slim bezel design is also enhanced by the ability to change the frame should it become scratched, or if the owner simply wants to change the colour of the surround to match a change in décor," added Choi.

The new 'Flatron KK' screen also uses DCDi technology (directional correlational de-interlacing) which eliminates jagged edges on images to produce smooth and precise picture quality. The technology was developed to do away with jagged and distorted images that appear when interlaced video signals are viewed on a progressive scan display.

"One well known aspect about plasma screens is they can suffer from 'ghosting' if a particular static image is displayed for too long where the 'ghosting' will remain on the screen even if the image changes," said Choi.

"The Flatron KK screen uses solutions to prevent 'stuck' images from causing 'ghosting', thus prolonging the life of the screen."
