Bahrain celebrates International Women's Day, reflects on women's achievements

"As a result of the various empowerment programs provided, women today are more qualified to be active participants in the democratic process," Princess Sabeeka said.

"More women have also succeeded in attaining decision-making positions in both the public and private sector and are considered today as main partners in the development of the state," she added.

With support from the private sector, government institutions and non-governmental organizations, the empowerment initiatives have increased participation in the workforce and helped foster entrepreneurial skills.

"We value their support and look forward to developing these partnerships further to create more opportunities for the advancement of Bahraini women," she said.

Bahrain celebrates its own national women's day every year on December 1.

"I am proud that Bahrain, with the blessing of His Majesty, is one of the few countries in the world to mark an annual date to celebrate the achievements and accomplishments of women," Her Royal Highness the Princess said.

The Supreme Council for Women, established in 2001, leads the charge for women's rights in Bahrain and has laid out its plan in the National Strategy for the Advancement of Bahraini Women.
