The awards, which were open to over 350 Dubai Duty Free suppliers, were introduced by the ISO14001 certified company as part of its ongoing environmental awareness campaign.
Commenting on the response to the award, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: 'We had announced this award during the DCA Environment week last summer and its main objective is to encourage environment-friendly practices among our suppliers. We are very pleased with the response generated and our in-house ISO14001 team of Anne Smith and Osama Al Gergawi and Don Roberts of Certification Body SGS, have worked hard over the past few months processing the many applications.'
Each Environment Award entry was assessed using a formal appraisal system from SGS, with the short listed companies receiving a half-day site audit. MMI emerged as the clear winner with 31 points out of a possible 34, while Gulf Confectionary attained 26 points out of 34.

Rep. and Ramzi Al Zarouni, Business Development Executive all from MMI and Mr. Mohammed Abdulla Al Ghurair and Mr. Junaid Adil, Marketing Manager from Gulf Confectionary.
Dubai Duty Free announce winners of the Environment Award
At a presentation attended by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, MMI and Gulf Confectionery were announced the winner and runner-up respectively of the inaugural Dubai Duty Free Environment Awards.
