Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al Mutaiwee, the Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry attended a press conference earlier today held at the Chamber with H.E Sven Erik Nordberg, the Ambassador of Denmark, and H.E Flemming Jensen, Consul of Denmark.
The Director General of DCCI welcomed his guests, and assured them that all the necessary arrangements have been made to receive H.H the Danish Prince who is visiting Dubai for the first time. H.H the Prince of Denmark will be met by H.E Mr. Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, the President of DCCI.
Al Mutaiwee praised the bilateral economic relations between Denmark and Dubai, and assured that this visit by the Danish Business delegation will have highly positive effects, leading to a growth in the levels of trade between the two countries. The Danish delegation arriving on 21st October comprises of 80 Danish business personnel representing a great number of leading Danish companies in the food and health sectors as well as other sectors. They will meet with their counterparts of Dubai businessmen, to discuss possible future relations.
H.E the Ambassador of Denmark, expressed his anticipation for this business conference saying "This is the biggest Danish business event in the Arabian peninsula for 20 years", "It is also the first time for a member of the Danish Royal Family to visit the region since 1984 when Her Majesty the Queen visited Saudi Arabia" he added. H.E Mr. Sven Erik Nordberg discussed the positive effects this major event will have on the trade relations between the two states, as it will allow many Danish businessmen visiting Dubai for the first time to witness the tremendous development Dubai has gone through over the past few years, and it would aid in the eradication of the many misunderstandings some Danish businessmen may have of this region.
The UAE is the second largest trading partner to Denmark in the region after Saudi Arabia. 27% of the Danish exports to the UAE is foodstuffs, most of which are dairy products and poultry, and 15% is pharmaceutical products. The Danish exports to Dubai reached 285,350 AED in 2002, and the Dubai (non-oil) foreign trade with Denmark totaled 320,329 AED in 2002.
