- PRESS RELEASE
Toshiba's newest Satellite M30 series of notebooks pumps up mobile performance and digital convergence with Centrino mobile technology, adding improved battery power, performance, form factor and wireless connectivity as central factors.
Also debuting at GITEX is the Satellite P10, the first desktop replacement to have a 15.4-inch wide screen, and the Satellite A30 range of all-in-one consumer notebooks.
The high-end Satellite M30 series balances multimedia features and style for both work and home use, offering Centrino mobile technology of up to 1.70GHz, up to 60GB hard disk, NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 graphics, Harman Kardon stereo speakers, DVD writing capabilities, and convenient CD and DVD playback buttons.
The M30 also includes one-touch TV-out button to easily connect to a projector or television, Secure Digital slot and an iLink (IEEE 1394) port.
"By placing such a clear emphasis on wireless mobility, Intel's vision is synergistic with Toshiba's philosophy that mobile computing is the way of the future," says Ahmed Khalil, regional manager of Toshiba Computer Systems.
"The end-user benefits from having the leading processor vendor and the number one notebook player working in such harmony. Certainly, it's going to make our life much easier as we continue to innovate and evolve our notebook designs."
All of Toshiba Centrino mobile technology notebooks ship standard with Toshiba's own uniquely designed ConfigFree software that allows easy control of communication devices and Wi-Fi connections.
It enables the end-user to find communications problems and create profiles for easy switching between locations and communication networks. This cuts down on an organisation's overall support costs and eliminates needless trouble-shooting calls. And most importantly, it keeps the end-user productive by eliminating unnecessary down time.
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology, that shuts down parts of the processor not being used and educates the processor as to application usage trends, is very much in line with Toshiba's efforts to maximise battery power in day-to-day use.
Toshiba is also using GITEX to introduce the first desktop replacement notebook to have a 15.4-inch wide-screen personal theatre display. Targeted at multimedia enthusiasts and designed as an all-in-one portable digital home entertainment console, the feature-rich Satellite P10 series provides greater mobility and flexibility while still enjoying built-in DVD and CD capabilities.
The P10 series is packaged in an attractive dark blue metallic design, creating a centerpiece entertainment device that can easily be shown on a coffee table, living room or home office.
Ideal for gaming enthusiasts, the series includes the latest NVIDIA graphics processing unit (GeForce FX Go5200 or Go 5600), delivering rich colour texture and 3D imagery to enhance the gaming experience.
"Consumers are using notebook PCs to do much more than just productivity applications, but rather as entertainment tools to watch DVDs, create and store digital media content and play computer games," says Khalil.
"Toshiba has thus taken its expertise in mobile computing, consumer electronics and product design to create the Satellite P10 series as the single home entertainment device that not only creates new usage scenarios, but also serves as an attractive entertainment device for any home."
In addition to its multimedia and entertainment feature-set, the P10 series includes the Intel Pentium 4 processor with hyper-threading technology that allows for better system responsiveness and performance when performing two or more applications simultaneously. Delivering added expansion and storage capabilities, the Satellite P10 series includes three USB 2.0 ports, built-in Secure Digital card, iLink (IEEE 1394) and DVD-multi drive to back up large data files.
Value-conscious consumers will benefit from Toshiba's newly-introduced Satellite A30 range that makes its Middle East debut at GITEX - Wi-Fi mobile computers that ship complete with DVD multi-drive and many other enhanced features.
The powerful blend of innovative design, multi-media capabilities and performance makes the Satellite A30 perfectly suited for students and families looking for excellent value for money, either as an affordable desktop replacement or as a low cost entry into mobile computing.
Optional upgrade to wireless connectivity (802.11b or 802.11a/b) gives users easy unplugged connections in the office, at home or one of the many emerging public hotspots such as airports, cafes or hotels. The DVD writing capability makes for uncomplicated backup and distribution of data.
"Design of notebooks has moved on from just a list of specifications," says Khalil,
"Users are spending more time with their notebook and want a good design, and a pleasant tactile feel as well as power.
"Toshiba uses its considerable expenditure in R&D to make notebooks that are different from the norm. Users should always try a notebook before buying. After all, you wouldn't buy a new car without test drive and you probably spend more time driving your notebook than your car."
The features of the Satellite A30 show why notebooks are outperforming desktop PCs in the consumer market. Its new-look stylish blue chassis carries a choice of Intel Pentium 4 processors with speeds up to 3.06 GHz, and larger hard disks (up to 60GB), making the Satellite A30 a genuine competitor to the office or home desktop.
