Welcare Hospital is a well-known leading facility and provider of private sector medical care actively contributing towards the development of world-class healthcare options within the private sector in the UAE. Current Welcare Hospital initiatives include imminent plans to perform the country's first open heart surgery in a private hospital. The Welcare Hospital is also associated with Johns Hopkins through a consultancy agreement and lab accreditation program.

Through a number of strategic alliances with internally reputed names in the field of healthcare in the USA, and the healthcare facility specialists, HSG Philipp Holzmann Technischer Service GmbH (Germany), American Healthcare Management Systems Ltd. (AHMSL) was created with the objective of providing quality management and consultancy services to healthcare service providers within the GCC region, South Africa, the Far East and beyond.

Enquiries have already come in from Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and India for AHMSL to provide healthcare management services.

Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of EMAAR, stated, "The new hospital will provide affordable, ethical and high quality medical care, conveniently situated to serve the community needs of the Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim and Jebel Ali area. The added plus is, the new facility will be providing a number of medical services that will be a first for the country's private medical sector," he added.

As its first major contract, American Healthcare Management Systems Ltd. will take over total facility management, including the project management of the 300 bed, multi-specialty hospital that will be built on a site held by EMAAR Properties. The project, estimated to cost in the vicinity of Dhs. 250 million, will feature medical facilities previously unavailable in the country, including organ transplant units, cardio thoracic surgery facilities and complete oncology servicing units. A specialist hospital architect will soon be appointed for the design of the hospital building. Phase one of the project will feature a 100-bed capacity wing with the remaining capacity to be completed during phase two of the project.

Modeled on the successful Welcare Hospital prototype, the new hospital is poised to be the region's largest private hospital. The new hospital aims to create specific centers of excellence that will provide world-class medical services and procedures that extend beyond the capabilities of current healthcare in the region.

"We aim to provide medical services that are unique and beyond the traditional capability of hospitals in the region, thus attracting patients throughout the GCC region. Patients and their families will no longer have to travel beyond the region to obtain first-rate medical attention", stated Sunny Varkey, Chairman of the Welcare Hospital and Varkey Group.

The new hospital will benefit from the Welcare Hospital's extensive experience in the quality health care sector, and will combine state of the art technology and practices with the unique service ethic that is already practiced at the Welcare Hospital along with the warmth and cultural sensitivities that are particular to the region. Additionally, continuous upgrading of technology and improved management practices in providing healthcare services will be the hallmark of all projects to be undertaken by AHMSL.
