The announcement came in the run to Cityscape 2003 exhibition and conference - the international commercial architecture and development exhibition and conference that will take place at Dubai's Grand Hyatt hotel, from October 18-21 - at which Gensler will be showcasing its award winning designs, including its iconic gate building for the DIFC.
Together with Dubai's World Trade Centre, International Convention Centre and the Emirates Towers, the master plan combines clusters of mixed-use office, retail, restaurant, entertainment and residential developments that will create a new central business district for the long-term growth of the city.
The inclusion of a museum, an art gallery and a performing arts centre will add to the Centre's attraction as a resort destination. People will be able to walk from one part of the city complex to another in a temperature-controlled environment, and on the outer perimeter there will be an automated transit system circumnavigating the entire district. The master plan also allows for future public transport provision.
'Having being active in Qatar, Kuwait, Dubai, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, I can safely say the region hosts some of Gensler's most exciting projects. With regards to the DIFC more specifically, we have seen incredible foresight in the desire to establish Dubai as a leading financial center and we are delighted to be part of this vision', says Chris Johnson, Managing Director of Gensler's London office.
Gensler is a leading global architecture, design, planning, and strategic consulting firm that partners with companies to achieve measurable business and organizational goals through the use of design. For over 35 years, Gensler has been a pioneer in creating great places that enhance the quality of work and life. Today, Gensler has nearly 1,700 people and offices in 25 cities.
Cityscape 2003 will focus on critical issues facing architects, developers and planners including present and future trends in real estate markets; urban planning; project financing solutions; sustainable architecture and design and Middle East property development practices.
Organised by IIR, Cityscape 2003 - to be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Dubai from October 18-21 - is the only Middle East event that focuses on the design and facilitation of future buildings.
It is supported by the Dubai Development and Investment Authority. The event's main sponsors are Aqar, Al Amoudia Group, Nakheel and Jumeirah Beach Resort. The event's other sponsors are Al-Oula Development Company, Rikaz, Assa Abloy and Tabreed.
