  • PRESS RELEASE

Samsung Electronics, the world leader in digital technology, in partnership with the Emirates Environment Group has embarked on a 'Green Management' drive.

The 'Green Management' drive is part of the company's commitment to educate people on contributing towards a 'greener' environment by strengthening the implementation and management of environmental issues in the UAE. Earlier this year, Samsung also joined hands with the Emirates Environmental Group by becoming an associate member and endorsing the EEG's vision for environmental protection.

"There is an immediate requirement to address environmental issues if we are to sustain economic development anywhere in the world," said Mr. D. K. Byeon, President, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"As the leading consumer electronics company, we take it as our responsibility to contribute to the community by encouraging programmes for the protection of the environment. Such efforts have established Samsung as being a responsible corporate citizen and a company dedicated to their customers and the preservation of the ecosystem. Today, Samsung and EEG strive to create a world where man and nature can exist in harmony, and provide a greener and livelier space for children to play and grow," he added.

Samsung Electronics has been leading the environment-conscious campaign since June 1992 when it announced its "Environmental Policy," aimed at building an environmental management system to prevent pollution-causing accidents, and continuously improve the environment. Aligned with its innovative products and growing interest in the environment, Samsung extended its commitment by announcing the "Green Management" drive in May 1996; and has since then made environment protection its number one priority across all activities.

"Samsung Electronics have implemented numerous 'Green Management' programs within the framework of 'Greening' of management, products, processes, workplaces and local communities, the results of which are evident in many domestic and international environment and safety certifications, development of environment-friendly products and breakthrough improvements in processes", said Mr. K.S. Vasudevan, Senior Manager, IT Division, Samsung Gulf Electronics. "This local initiative will strive to influence each and every individual of this society positively on various environment protection issues," he added.

"In April '03, the company was the first monitor brand to have received the TCO '03 Displays certification for most of its monitors. The TCO'03 is a Swedish labelling standard currently used by manufacturers worldwide. The certificate is TCO Development's new quality certification and environmental labelling for monitors. Samsung is the largest player in the TFT-LCD monitors in the Middle East and the rest of the world. This certification confirms the company's commitment to meet the highest quality and environmental standards in order to benefit the end-users," Mr. Vasudevan added.

The company publishes a "Green Management Report" to communicate to and with its customers, investors, business partners and others interested in the many aspects of Green Management. The company plans to conduct Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE) on other arrears such as corporate organization and system, and apply it on work sites.

The "Green Management" philosophy indicates Samsung's commitment to take part in the global effort to enrich human lives and preserve the environment, by recognizing and actively promoting Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) as key components of its business activities. With the pursuit of Green Management, Samsung Electronics will continue to create new values as a digital leader in the 21st century.
