Build-up in full swing at GITEX as project designers and crew work round the clock to fit together the biggest IT event-ever in the region.
Flags and buntings were being hung up while the insides of the halls were ringing with the sounds of hammers and drills as the basic skeletons of the exhibitors' stands were being pieced together like giant jigsaw puzzles, setting the stage for the two DWTC-organised shows that will break all records and set new trends in the regional and international IT industry this year.

"GITEX and GITEX Computer Shopper this year will be landmark events in the history of the regional exhibition business," said DWTC Director General Mubarak bin Fahad. "The reach, size and scope of the shows have improved tremendously as they draw participation and interest from not only the immediate region but from all parts of the world, Mr. bin Fahad stressed.

GITEX this year has taken up the entire sprawling expanse of the DWTC Complex that includes eight exhibition halls and the new Sheikh Rashid Hall. Record numbers of pre-registered visitors, exhibitors, participating countries and country pavilions, along with new amenities and facilities will make the show one to remember. E-access and mobile exhibition guides that are being introduced this year make GITEX 2003 considerably more visitor-friendly by easing up access bottlenecks and making for easier navigation.

GITEX Computer Shopper, the retail arm of GITEX, has registered a tremendous surge in net floor space that flies in the face of the trends in the IT retail industry worldwide. The event promises to offer visitors a fantastic selection of discounted products and innovative configurations. The exhibition is expected to attract even more visitors than the previous years as consumers flock to take advantage of some of the best deals and bargains the industry has to offer, in the Middle East.

Sony, the world's leading consumer Electronics Company and manufacturer of the premier gaming platform PlayStation will be bringing the "Middle East PlayStation Experience" to Dubai at the GITEX Computer Shopper. The "Middle East PlayStation Experience" involves a set up of an integrated interactive entertainment arena in the same hall as the GITEX Computer Shopper at Airport Expo.

GITEX 2003, which is restricted to trade visitors will run from 19th to 23rd October while GITEX Computer Shopper which caters to the general public will be held from 18th to 24th October.
