GITEX Computer Shopper opens as crowds throng the venue on opening day

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, Chairman Dubai Technology, Electronic Commerce & Media Free Zone Authority inaugurated the GITEX Computer Shopper earlier today at the Airport Expo as crowds thronged the venue on the opening day itself substantiating the event's potential to boost retail IT sales in the region.
"Computer Shopper this year is designed to provide the ultimate shopping experience for all those planning to buy IT products with highly attractive bargains on offer from well known manufacturers. The show has grown phenomenally and is 136% larger than last year in terms of floor space and is up by 16% in the number of participating exhibitors," Mr. bin Fahad observed.
The product profile at Computer Shopper comprises of PCs, laptops, notebooks, printers, accessories, peripherals, office automation products, telecommunication and security products, audio visual systems, solutions, educational and entertainment software, Internet products, computer games, faxes, modems, communications solution, multimedia, mobile telephones, training programmes, stationery and computer furniture among others.
Computer Shopper has recorded a phenomenal growth of 136% over last year's edition with significant growth in gaming, digital imaging and telecommunication technology. Big players like Microsoft, Jumbo, Al Futtaim Trading, Emirates Computers, Al Sayegh Bros, BenQ and Jacky's have all increased the size of their participation from last year.
Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed also took a walk around the Middle East Playstation Experience - brought to the Middle East for the first time by Sony. With around 150 PlayStation consoles loaded with the latest software titles, the "Middle East PlayStation Experience" is the perfect platform to bring gaming to the masses allowing them an opportunity to experience a wide genre of games under one roof.
Another novelty at this year's show is the 'Magic of Technology' presented by Emirates Computers and Nokia. Iinternational illusionists will perform six shows per day highlighting all the features of the latest technology. Jazzing up the show will be well-known DJ's from Radio and MTV, along with colourful dance acts and fantastic illusions.
In 2002 more than AED 34 million in recorded retail sales were generated providing a clear indication of the fact that the show was an outstanding success for both vendors and consumers.
With prominent players confirming their presence at the GITEX Computer Shopper this year, it is all to evident that Shopper will showcase the big global brands, offer the best bargains, attractive deals and showcase the latest and most innovative technologies.
