- PRESS RELEASE
Five journalists from Bahrain's main publishing groups are attending the region's largest IT, technology and telecommunications exhibition on a fact-finding mission to bring news of the latest developments back home to Bahrain.
The Bahraini journalists traveling with the Batelco delegation are Waheed Al-Belushi and Aref Al-Ruwayi from Al-Ayam, Abdullah Al-Ayoobi from Akhbar Al-Khaleej, Obaidily Yousif Al- Obaidily from Al-Wasat, and last but not least Jalil Omar from Bahrain Tribune.
The team left Bahrain on Sunday, October 19, returning on Wednesday afternoon. The journalists recently met Batelco chief executive Tony Hart at Batelco's Hamala headquarters, where he wished them well on their trip.
"Batelco is keen that Bahrain benefits from the knowledge and information accumulated at the GITEX conference. There is a wealth of up to date thinking available at the show - and we want to help bring this information to the people of Bahrain," explained Tony Hart, Batelco's chief executive when he met the journalists delegation recently.
"The power of technology is taking us in all kinds of new and interesting directions, and GITEX is a fantastic way of learning about the future possibilities at first hand," he added.
Batelco believes information and education are the first steps to help consumers decide what they want from their telecommunications industry.
"With competition in many different telecommunications products expected in the Kingdom next year, people will be free to dictate the kinds of products and services they want for Bahrain," added Tony Hart. "But people first need to know what's possible and what's available.
"We believe the press is the best source of information for Bahrain, which is why we have decided to make this trip possible for the journalists."
