The Emirates 'eLearning Route Map' achieved gold in the Best Practices category for the quality of the business case, overall eLearning strategy and financial model.
Emirates, the only non-North American company to receive a gold award in this category, was recognised during an Awards ceremony and dinner held on Tuesday, September 24, 2003 in Los Angeles, as part of the Online Learning 2003 Conference & Expo.
'We are particularly proud of this achievement in the first year of operation of the eLearning team,' said Mark Daldorf, Emirates' Vice President Human Resources Development.
'The award is tangible recognition that Emirates' eLearning initiatives are recognized as world class, and competitive with organisations that have been in this area much longer.'
A record number of 175 entries underwent rigorous multi-phase review by 188 independent judges with expertise in instructional design, online learning and organizational change. Numerical ratings based on specific criteria were averaged to determine each entry's ranking.
Joining Emirates in taking top honours - the Gold Excellence in E-Learning Award in the category of Best Practices - were Accenture, Deloitte & Touche, Emirates, the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics)/Defense Acquisition University, and Bell Canada.
The Excellence in E-Learning Awards are presented by brandon-hall.com, one of the e-learning industry's leading research and consulting firms.
Now in its seventh year, the awards program showcases exceptional work in the e-learning industry by providing feedback and benchmarking to entrants in an overall effort to help advance the e-learning industry.
'The winning entries have done a terrific job this year. The innovation and desire to excel that is demonstrated in these programs gives us all something to celebrate,' said Brandon Hall, Ph.D., of brandon-hall.com, and chairman of the Excellence in E-Learning Awards programme.
'These ground-breaking efforts and best practices benefit the industry as a whole.'
This year, entries were submitted in three categories: Best Practices, Custom Content, and Innovative Technology. Entries were evaluated by judges with expertise in instructional design, online learning and the implementation of e-learning.
