LG debuts world's first multi-format DVD rewriter

- PRESS RELEASE
The latest addition to LG Electronics' market-leading range of optical storage devices (OSD) has debuted at GITEX 2003.
The internal LG Super-Multi drive is compatible with all three DVD formats, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/+RW and DVD RAM and all CD formats, representing a global storage and playback first.
"One current concern is over the DVD format that will become standard in future and the LG Super-Multi removes this problem from the equation," said Mr. P. C. Choi, President, LG Electronics Gulf FZE.
"Aside from the obvious advantage of reading every DVD format, the Super-Multi drive supports 'simultaneous read/write' through DVD RAM where data is recorded and verified simultaneously.
"If there is a defect, the drive will write to another area on the disc, whereas with DVD+ and DVD- a defect on the disc makes the drive stop writing and the disc becomes unusable."
The LG Super-Multi drive gives the additional benefit of recording up to seven times the amount of data accepted on a single CD-R, making it ideal for back-ups of large data files.
LG's Super-Multi drive is compatible with Windows 98SE, ME, 2K Professional, XP Home and XP Professional.
