Journalists from all over the world impressed with GITEX 2003

A feeling of amazement and captivation was for all to see when a group of 15 journalists from various countries visited the on-going (19th - 23rd October) Gulf Information Technology Exhibition (GITEX 2003) in Dubai.

The media team was hosted by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) from their target markets were spell bound by witnessing the latest additions and innovations at the Middle East's most significant IT event.

DTCM Manager Missions, Hamad bin Mejren said that a lot have been talked and acknowledged about Dubai's tourism and business facilities and services. Now is the appropriate time to unleash another side of the emirate telling every body how we kept ourselves at pace internationally with latest technology in the IT industry. "Dubai has what it takes to become a hub of Information Technology of the Middle East and that is evident from the most recent state-of the art products, displayed at the event," said Mr. bin Mejren.

He noted that the visiting journalists interacted with the decision makers and buyers at the event who also gave them a positive feedback

about the responsive Dubai market in the field of cutting edge technology. "New product launches with information on future concepts in the field of Telecommunications, Computing, Communications Systems & Applications, Networking and Internet Technologies all indicated that Dubai is committed to excel and stand out in all areas," said Mr. bin Mejren.

He said that department also has its own information booth at the event. The stand provided the exhibitors and buyers every thing they want to know about the destination. "This way, we are enlarging the radius of visitors from 'only business' to leisure by showcasing the emirate's touristic attraction. This will help in convincing visitors that Dubai is equally fruitful as a holiday destination," said Mr. bin Mejren.

Besides briefing the journalists about the role of department in promoting tourism regionally as well as internationally, a city tour was also arranged for them. They visited Internet and Media City, golf clubs, Dubai Cruise Terminal, heritage sites, souks, shopping malls and tour and safaris, hotels and other new developments. "Assisting journalists is one of the integral strategies of the department to promote Dubai's tourist sites and in turn boost the tourism of the emirate," added Mr. bin Mejren.

The visiting journalists hailed from India, Germany, Hong Kong, France, Japan, United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Africa and Russia.
