Maxtor Corporation (NYSE: MXO), a worldwide leader in hard disk drives has been using Almasa Distribution in the Middle East. Due to their successful relationship and their outstanding performance, the geographical region under this agreement has expanded and today is in effect in the Middle East (including Iraq), North and central Africa, and Turkey.

Mehdi Amjad, Managing Director, Almasa IT Distribution said, "Pioneering technology distribution into Iraq is more than a personal project for me - it is a strategic business decision that our share holders have ratified and are seriously measuring short and long term success. Almasa being a local distributor - as opposed to a distributor with board members outside of the region - is closer to the market, so can identify and initiate a market penetration strategy quicker than any other distributor".

Almasa IT Distribution set up a virtual business group to follow the political and business climate in Iraq over the past year, and is now confident that the company can enter the market quickly and profitably. While our market information shows clearly the potential in Iraq, it is difficult to predict how fast that development will take place. That said Almasa IT Distribution announced they will have a local office operational in the New Year.

Mr Mehdi added, "All our vendors are aware of our expansion program. For some Iraq is still an embargoed country, so they will not be able to benefit from our market penetration immediately, but nearly all vendors are expecting the market to open up in the short term".

Almasa IT Distribution is reporting expansion geographically. With greater coverage in the Middle East and North and central Africa region, the group is able to provide a greater service to its ever expanding reseller customer base.
