Dubai Internet City selects Veritas to automate data management
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, October 23 - 2003 at 12:16
- PRESS RELEASE
The Middle East operations of VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, announced today that Dubai Internet City (DIC) will deploy its solutions to automate data management and centralize storage of its most vital data.
DIC will utilize the VERITAS NetBackup solution as part of storage area networks (SANs) linking hardware and data in three remote locations. The VERITAS-based SAN will enable DIC to automate the storage of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including financial, human resources and billing applications, while users are accessing that information online.
The business benefits that DIC anticipates from its new storage infrastructure include unlimited scalability as the organization's data increases; platform independence across its different hardware environments; centralized, policy-based administration to reduce staff intervention; and transparent, non-disruptive backups for greater internal performance.
"Our choice of VERITAS to automate data management and centralize storage of vital data is part of our efforts to partner with global companies to establish better quality and more efficient operations that will help us to service our Business Partners better," said Dr. Omar Bin Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Internet City. "VERITAS's solutions provided us an answer for our unique requirements and we are glad to partner with them," he added.
"We had two objectives - to centralize all of our storage processes into a reliable framework and automate them so our staff could focus on other core tasks. Following an extremely rigorous evaluation of the available solutions to meet these goals, VERITAS was chosen for DIC's information protection and management needs," said Sameer Sadeh, Chief Technology Officer of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone.
As part of its new storage strategy, DIC has invested in tape libraries in which its most critical business information will be stored, and the VERITAS solution will automate and manage the regular back-up of data onto these media. If DIC then experiences unplanned downtime, the VERITAS data protection software can recover the necessary data quickly and reliably, ensuring continuity of DIC's internal and external services.
"VERITAS was one of DIC's first Business Partners and DIC has been using our storage software since its inception. This automation initiative deepens the partnership between VERITAS and DIC, demonstrating that a leading technology-related brand such as DIC requires the same level of technology expertise and business value that is inherent in VERITAS' software solutions," commented Mike Hynes, regional manager of VERITAS Software Middle East.
DIC's latest storage implementation is part of a larger roadmap to the eventual clustering and replication of its data for greater accessibility and elimination of data loss. The next phase in the project is evaluating integration of the three different storage area networks and creation of a comprehensive disaster recovery strategy.
For a firsthand demonstration of VERITAS' storage management and data protection solutions, GITEX 2003 attendees can visit the VERITAS stand within DIC's Community Zone in the new Sheikh Rashid Hall.
