CPI and IDG present Global IT Vision award at Gitex
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, October 25 - 2003 at 09:22
- PRESS RELEASE
The world's largest ICT publisher, IDG, together with its regional partner, CPI, presented His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum an award for Visionary ICT Leadership during Gitex 2003, in recognition of his vision that led directly to the creation of the world's first ICT free zone, positioning Dubai as the natural ICT hub for Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia, plus the continuing development of the original DIC concept into innovative areas including Knowledge Village and Ideas Oasis.
The award was presented on the DIC stand by CPI's founder and chairman, Dominic De Sousa, accompanied by a special report from leading analyst group, IDC Middle East, on Dubai's pivotal position in the region's ICT economy.
"His Highness had a dream and made that into a reality in less than a year," said De Sousa. "As a company with strong links to the region and a belief in innovation, we felt it was time that the industry honoured His Highness for his unparallel contribution to Dubai, the region and the ICT community as a whole."
"We feel very strongly and have driven our global partner to recognise the world class initiatives taken in Dubai to put the region on the global map," continued De Sousa. "This deserves recognition worldwide. In addition, this is the first time that IDG has given such an award - a reflection of the importance of His Highness' achievement."
As the largest ICT publisher, IDG is very conscious of its global role. In over 180 countries across the world, IDG subsidiaries and partners focus on local content, local achievement and local successes, albeit against the background of the wider industry. The company sees and values local and regional perspectives. Its corporate culture is based on one simple idea: sharing of resources from across the world for mutual benefit.
IDG's Chairman and CEO, Pat McGovern sent a special message to mark the occasion. "Senior IDG executives visiting Dubai have returned with reports of the speed, the drive and the execution of your ideas for this sector. In the Middle East, our local partner, CPI, has been keeping the global IT industry informed about Dubai Internet City and His Highness' other initiatives to focus and develop the ICT industry in this region. That vision is without parallel," he said in part of the message, presented to Sheikh Mohammed in a frame.
