GITEX Computer Shopper, the retail arm of GITEX 2003, came to a close after a record-breaking run yesterday (October 24th), even as exhibitors reported an outstanding volume of sales and deals over the week-long event which was held at the Airport Expo, Dubai.
Visitor numbers recorded an all time high, with 75,638 people going through the turnstiles this year, a creditable 16 % jump over last year's event which attracted 65,200 people, while the show recorded a 136% jump in nett floor space sold.
While a majority of the visitors came from the UAE and its neighbouring countries, a large number also came from the other parts of the Middle East, the subcontinent and Europe underlining the increasing reach and popularity of the show.
Exhibitors across the shop floor were appreciative of the response they got from the visitors, with most of them reporting encouraging results from their participation at this year's show. Sales volumes were up almost all across the floor, while enquiries and prospectives were struck right till the closing moments of the show.
The Middle East Playstation Experience, introduced for the first time in the Middle East proved to be one of the major draws of GITEX Computer Shopper 2003. The vast array of the latest gaming consoles made sure the area was buzzing with crowds of enthusiastic gamers both old and young itching to get their hands on the latest available in the market.
Another centre of attraction was Nokia's Magic of Technology which was presented in association with Emirates Computers. The stunning composition of technological wizardry and entertainment had the crowds spellbound with interest.
Mega deals that were available at this year's show included Al Futtaim's car-a-day giveaway promotion, great offers on Panasonic, Toshiba, Sanyo and Plug-ins Electronix including multi-media projectors, digital cameras, computers and notebooks. Toshiba offered for the first time, the Pentium 4 notebook at a rock bottom price apart from dual purpose projectors that have a brightness of about 1,200 anti-lumins and a lamp-life of 3,000 hours.
Plug-ins ElectroniX had great bargains on the Acer desktop 2.6 Pentium 4 with a 15in monitor, Dell Centrino 1.3 notebook, HP Presario 2515 Pentium 4 2.3 with bonus media card reader and the new iMate pocket PC 2003.
