- PRESS RELEASE
Business Software Alliance (BSA), the international association established by the software industry for promoting use of original software declared that the recently held Computer Shopper 2003 was free of any illegal trading, for the second year in a row.
"BSA is pleased to put another clean stamp of approval on this year's Computer Shopper exhibition", said Jawad Al Redha, Co-Chairman, Middle East, Business Software Alliance. The exhibition was held successfully and was free of any illegal trading. We commend the organizers of the show, Ministry of Information and DWTC for implementing extremely high standards of copyright protection during the exhibition.
BSA has undertaken a series of initiatives to promote the usage of original software at Computer Shopper 2003. Through BSA's efforts, exhibitors and visitors alike were made aware that any illegal trading would be dealt with stringently by the concerned authorities and exhibitors were instructed to ensure that all the software they were selling was original.
"To create awareness, we launched an on-line quiz on the BSA website during Gitex which was held from 19-23 October, 2003. Three winners who answered the quiz correctly won valuable software prizes sponsored by BSA member organizations, through a lucky draw.
Visitor's to BSA's kiosk at Computer Shopper 2003 also had the opportunity to answer spot surveys on intellectual property rights (IPR) and win prizes. In addition, BSA distributed free booklets on topics like 'Guides to Software Management', 'Q&As' and 'Thanks For Staying Legal' to promote further awareness on IPR.
"The fact that we have been to conduct a clean exhibition for the second consecutive year, is proof that efforts are paying off .We have noticed a tremendous drop in the trading of illegal software at the exhibition. Today, Computer Shopper has evolved into one of the foremost IT consumer exhibitions in the region, attracting leading international companies from across the world and we were happy to see that the public's awareness about original software is rising as people are growing more and more aware of the disadvantages of buying pirated software", concluded Al Redha.
