  • PRESS RELEASE

Work has commenced on expanding the network of roads around BurJuman Centre that would include the setting up of new traffic systems to ease the flow of traffic near the mall.

The new roads will further enhance the beautiful landscape of the Dhs. 1.4 billion expansion project that is now underway to develop BurJuman into a total destination.

Dubai Municipality is implementing the road development project which involves the modification of the roads around BurJuman Centre including a brand new traffic junction that will be added to the Trade Centre road between the existing Karama and BurJuman junctions.

The project includes the improvements on key roads like Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road (Trade Centre Road), Khaled Bin Waleed Road, Kuwait Road and Al Mankhool Road, and construction of signalized junctions on internal roads.

The road development programme, which is scheduled to be completed in February 2004, will feature the use of advanced traffic simulation software to minimize customer travel discomfort. It will also help upgrade and modify existing services including the street lighting system in the area to ensure the safety of road users and the provision of traffic signs and road markings.

Mr. Eisa Adam Ibrahim, General Manager of BurJuman, said: "As BurJuman is committed to supporting projects that are beneficial to the community, we are happy to work closely with Dubai Municipality to help provide better services to residents in our neighbourhood, and all motorists using the roads around BurJuman. The road development project will also blend well with the new external landscape that is being designed as part of the BurJuman expansion"

He added: "The road expansion will further enhance our own redevelopment programme, as it will provide better and faster access for visitors to the mall. Despite the temporary inconveniences, we are confident that residents near the the mall and our visitors will also cooperate and understand the need to develop the existing road system around BurJuman".

The BurJuman expansion project has entered its final construction phase. On the retail side, space will almost treble to 800,000 sq ft from the current 300,000 sq ft with the number of stores and cafes at BurJuman increasing from over 190 at present to approximately 300 after the expansion programme is completed.

The entire built up area of the project will cover an area of 4.4 million square feet, and will also feature a 22-storey commercial office block with state-of-the-art offices, a hi-tech business centre, a 20,000 sq ft exclusive conference hall, Internet facilities, cafes, a fully equipped gymnasium and other sports facilities. On the residential side, BurJuman will also comprise 163 furnished and semi furnished condominiums in addition to a block of fully furnished luxury apartments.
