VARIG chooses Mercator revenue accounting system
- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, September 01 - 2001 at 14:54
- PRESS RELEASE
Brazilian airline VARIG has selected RAPID, the Cargo Revenue Accounting system developed by Mercator, the Dubai-based IT division of the Emirates Group, in a multi-million dollar contract.
As one of the most powerful systems available, RAPID provides highly effective management decision support, gives VARIG quick and accurate revenue accounting information, and substantially cuts costs by streamlining the process.
Antonio Gualberto, VARIG's Project Co-ordinator, said, "This achievement was a result of good preparation, a lot of effort, and committed teamwork. We are pleased to be part of the RAPID airline family."
Hugh Pride, Director IT for Mercator, said: "The contract included customising RAPID software to meet VARIG's specific requirements so they could reap the full benefits of making it their core revenue accounting platform.
"VARIG will enjoy lower revenue accounting costs thanks to the latest technology, as RAPID offers detailed revenue and commercial information on its cargo operations via a single, consolidated source."
The system is marketed jointly by Mercator and by SITA Inc, which provides global airline industry network services in 220 countries.
Alexandre Gusmao, SITA's Major Account Director, Enterprise Region, said, "Everyone is very impressed with Mercator's performance and professionalism."
VARIG has more than 400 daily flights to 18 countries, is one of the largest airlines in South America and a member of Star Alliance. Some 16 per cent of its total revenue comes from cargo.
The International Air Cargo Transportation community honoured it with an International Aviation Achievement Award for its "important and decisive contribution to the progress and promotion of the air cargo industry."
VARIG is the latest RAPID user, along with Emirates, Air Zimbabwe, Royal Brunei Airlines, Air New Zealand, British Airways, SriLankan Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Qantas and Olympic Airways.
