Dubai Government goes live on Oracle E-Business Suite

Oracle Corporation, the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that Dubai Government has successfully completed the implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite for Dubai Civil Aviation, Dubai Economic Department and The Ruler's Court; this comes as part of a government-wide Government Resource Planning (GRP) project based on the Oracle E-Business Suite.
The Project's aim is to enable efficient planning and management for government resources and cover(s) several areas of the eGovernment initiative including finance, budgeting, procurement and human resources management. It will be deployed in all of the 25 Dubai Government departments using a single instance of the Oracle E-Business Suite that is hosted in an Application Service Provisioning (ASP) model on the Dubai Government intranet.
''The successful implementation of the Oracle E-Business Suite at the first three governmental departments confirms that we have selected the right technology partner to offer us the unique combination of a well integrated GRP as well as excellent local support'' commented Mr. Thani Alzaffin, Director, Government Information Resources Department at H. H. Ruler's Court.
''We have a clear mandate from His Highness to set Dubai Government as a model eGovernment not only by enabling electronic services to our constituents, our external customers, but also by streamlining and automating the internal processes for our employees, our internal customers. With this vision, Dubai is on its way to become one of the most service-oriented governments in the world. The GRP project is focusing on efficiency, availability of timely information and excellence in public services, Oracle is helping us delivers on these objectives''. he added
The implementation of the government wide project is being managed by Oracle's partner,KPMG. Comenting on the launch Ashraf Husain, Director-KPMG said:"The GRP project is unique and has key ingredients to build a service-oriented government; the strong sponsorship of Dubai Government, the mature Oracle technology and the consulting know how of KPMG are considered key critical success factors for this programme". he continued.
"We are extremely delighted that the investment which Dubai Government has put in this programme has started to show benefits to departments such as DED and DCA. Such departments are already experiencing improvements in their daily productivity and managing the wealth of readily accessible information created by the GRP system."
Oracle's E-Business Suite offers a complete, integrated, and Internet enabled suite of business applications. Modules selected for this pioneering eGovernment project include; Financials, Contracts, Project Costing, Treasury, Inventory, Purchasing, Internet Procurement, Human Resources Management System and Payroll. The project also introduces employee self service across many disciplines including; purchasing, human resources, budgeting, reporting and consolidation of information.

The deployment of the Oracle E-Business Suite as a single hosted instance across the entire government which enables government officials to have a consolidated view of all budgeting, financial, purchasing and human resources information while maintaining security and information access for each department. This saves time and effort in terms of information consolidation and dataroll up, and it sets Dubai apart as one of the few governments around the world that have a consolidated GRP. At the heart of this project are Oracle's flagship Oracle 9i Database, Oracle 9i Application server, Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Portal delivering the security, scaleability and high availability needed for such major eGovernment implementations.
This project builds upon the strength of the partnership between the Government of Dubai, and Oracle which brought to the region Tejari the leading regional B2B market place, and a number of major projects in Dubai Ports Authority, Emirates Airlines, Dubai Courts, Dubai Health Department and many others.
