The training programme, which is sponsored by Tanmia and forms part of the National Bank of Dubai's Al Mishaal school leavers programme, aims to improve the business language skills of the students and allow them to work more effectively within the banking industry. The programme is also part of NBD's continuing commitment to emiratization as the students are expected to join the more than 300 nationals currently working in the bank.

Julian Eynon, Professional Development Training Manager at the British Council in Dubai, who is managing the student training programme, explained that the course will help the young Emiratis develop their English language skills for the workplace.

"Our aim is to improve their general fluency and build their confidence with using English so they are better able to interact with the bank's clients. Our focus will be on teaching them to use the language within the context of the banking environment."

He pointed out that the students will undergo 55 hours of training. "For the first 10 days, they will be trained at the National Bank of Dubai with one and half hour session of English, the following 10 days will see them undergo extensive training at the British Council with four hours training daily."

He praised the National Bank of Dubai's Mishaal programme as an efficient tool that is helping more and more UAE local students join the workforce and contribute to the country's economy.

"Last year, we trained a total of 45 students and they all successfully passed their English language programme and were all offered jobs within the various branches and departments of the National Bank of Dubai.

"In addition to this current batch of 15 students, we plan to train an additional two batches totaling 30 students," Eynon concluded.
