  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, November 19 - 2003 at 15:01
  • PRESS RELEASE

Germany will be hosting a pavilion at Global Village 2004, part of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), for the first time.

The new pavilion will be one of eight new participants at the event, taking the total number of countries represented to 38. Global Village managed by DSF and Dubai Festival City will take place on the 15th January to 15th February throughout DSF.

The pavilion will be bringing the traditions and cultures of Germany to life with a huge projector screen featuring rolling images of key cities, German seasons, major sporting events and much more. Ibrahim Abdul Rahim, Global Village Director said, "We are delighted that Germany will be joining Global Village this year. Germany represents one of the strongest and largest economies in Europe and as such they have a wealth of cultures and traditions that visitors will enjoy."

The pavilion will host a number of authentic and traditional products from the heart of Germany, from Sweet breads and other local foods to the famous German toys and bicycles. In the form of entertainment a group of musicians will perform the classic German 'Schallmeien Music'. Singing and dancing throughout the event the large group will wear traditional dress, creating an exciting and fun environment for the public to enjoy.

Kerstin Uckrow, organizer of the German Pavilion said, "We will have plenty of traditional fare on offer but we also hope to represent a broader Germany. Our country is comprised of sixteen independent states although most people only know a handful of them; we would like to inform visitors about all these areas so that they are aware of the many wonderful opportunities our country holds. Our Pavilion will aim to introduce local German cultures and products to visitors of Global Village. We are looking forward to our first year and anticipate it will be a great success for us."

Global Village is one of the biggest attractions of DSF, last year drawing up to three million visitors. The objective of Global Village is to provide a wide array of different cultures and societies within one environment. As well as promoting a dazzling range of local products and foods from all over the world, Global Village offers an opportunity to introduce the visitors of DSF to different cultures, traditions and ways of life.
