BenQ becomes official IT partner for UEFA Euro 2004

BenQ (pronounced BEN-CUE) today announced it has been appointed by UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations) as an Official IT Partner of the UEFA European Football Championship, to be held in Portugal in 2004.
"BenQ Middle East is delighted that we are the official IT partner for UEFA 2004. People from across the region will be following the matches closely, and, with BenQ technology, they won't miss a minute of the games," commented Robert Dung, managing director, BenQ Middle East.
Technology supplied under the agreement includes high-grade models from the BenQ Joybook range of laptop PCs, with superior wireless technology and multi-media capabilities, and a significant number of LCD monitors, to help the public and officials monitor the games.
Additionally, BenQ will provide state-of-the-art peripherals in the media and broadcast centres for the anticipated 8,000 accredited media that will cover the games.
"One of BenQ's key messages is that our technology matches seamlessly with the lives of our customers, and it's a strong sign of the versatility of our products that they can support an international event of this importance," added Dung.
Under the agreement, BenQ will also be the Official Statistics Provider on euro2004.com, helping to maximize the enjoyment for fans around the world by providing real time information through the Internet.
The signing ceremony was held recently at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland with Gerhard Aigner, chief executive officer, UEFA and Conway Lee, managing director, BenQ Europe. On the same day, the announcement was made in Asia with press conferences hosted by K.Y.Lee, chief executive officer, BenQ in Beijing, China, and by Jerry Wang, vice president of marketing and global sales operations, BenQ in Taipei, Taiwan.
At the announcement, Lee said: "The UEFA European Football Championship is recognized for the quality of football and the enjoyment the tournament brings to fans around the world.
