- United Arab Emirates: Saturday, November 29 - 2003 at 15:15
- PRESS RELEASE
The program for Practi-Med Dubai, the inaugural continuous medical education (CME) event from the Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC) and Harvard Medical International (HMI) partnership has been announced.
The full program for Practi-Med Dubai medical education symposium will feature advances in prevention, diagnosis and treatment in clinical practice. Leading international faculty, including the Dean of Harvard Medical School, Dr. Joseph Martin and the Editor-in-Chief of the New England Journal of Medicine, will present practical solutions to address common health care challenges affecting the Middle East. Among the topics that will be covered are the health of children and expectant mothers, the latest medical and surgical conditions, advances in cardiovascular disease, and advances in patient safety and healthcare management.
Saeed Al Muntafiq, Chairman of the Board of Dubai Healthcare City, said "Practi-Med Dubai is one of the first education programs resulting from the partnership between HMI and Dubai Healthcare City, and the first of a series of lifelong learning programs designed for health care professionals of the United Arab Emirates. We are collaborating on the design of an academic medical complex that will serve as a globally recognized location of choice for health care and a center of excellence for specialist medical services, medical education, life science research, and technology implementation in the Middle East."
He added, "There is already a high-level global team of medical experts from Harvard that is operating out of Dubai on the DHCC project. Our joint venture agreement is of a great scope and the provision of Continuous Medical Education is just one part of it. We are delivering on that by organizing the first such event in December. As part of our dedication towards delivering healthcare services at international standards, Practi-Med Dubai will provide healthcare professionals with the opportunity to network with the leading peers of the industry from around the globe. The faculty includes leaders from Harvard Medical School, the New England Journal of Medicine, Imperial College of London, Brown University, University of Toronto and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), just to name a few."
"This program has been designed to provide physicians in the UAE with a wide range of information for their daily practice immediately," said Dr. Harvey Makadon, Harvard Medical School (HMS) associate professor of medicine and HMI director, who built the concept behind Practi-Med. "Primary care physicians in the communities of the UAE have the opportunity to prevent medical problems before they occur, or to diagnose and treat conditions as they arise. We hope that by communicating the latest advances and tools used to deliver quality health care, we can help elevate the standards of their daily practice and enhance the prestige of primary care in the region."
Dr. Makadon also added that "as part of the creation of Dubai Healthcare City, the educational offerings are being designed to insure that future generations of healthcare providers throughout the region will have access to the finest education programs provided in an environment that will support life-long learning."
As the first medical education program resulting from the partnership between HMI and Dubai Healthcare City, Practi-Med Dubai is also the first of a series of lifelong learning programs designed for health care professionals of the region. The partners are collaborating on the establishment of an academic medical complex that will serve as a globally recognized location of choice for health care and a center of excellence for specialist medical services, medical education, life science research, and technology implementation in the Middle East.
DHCC and HMI have organized Practi-Med Dubai in conjunction with the New England Journal of Medicine and the Emirates Medical Association. To register for the event and for more detailed program information, visit http://www.practi-med.com/dubai or http://www.dhcc.ae/practi-med.
Dr. Makadon finally added, "our partnership with DHCC is a robust one, and one that is rooted in the recognition that best care will be provided by clinicians who are well trained, have continuing opportunity to supplement their training with ongoing education, and where quality of care is managed in ways to insure patient safety and world class outcomes."
