Within the Civil Aerospace sector, more than 400 Rolls-Royce Trent and RB211 engines are in operation or on order with Middle East operators and a growing number are backed up by the company's range of customer services.

This illustrates the company's consistent strategy of investing in technology, capability and infrastructure to develop a competitive product portfolio, which enables Rolls-Royce to grow market share and increase the installed base of engines, creating the opportunity for aftermarket services

Airline customers can choose tailored TotalCare packages, while the equivalent range of options for operators of Rolls-Royce powered business jets is offered under the CorporateCare banner. Support for Defence customers comes through MRMS (Mission Ready Management Solutions).

Development of a global repair and overhaul network together with enhanced services capability, means the aftermarket business now accounts for 50 per cent of revenues for the group and, within the global Civil Aerospace division, 60 per cent of Trent engines and 90 per cent of regional engines are covered by TotalCare.

The Trent family of engines is one of the foundations of the company's Middle East presence - with 80 per cent of all Airbus A330 departures from the region being powered by the Trent 700. Recent Trent 700 selections by EgyptAir and Yemenia confirm it is the engine of choice within the region.

Emirates, which operates the largest fleet of A330s in the world, continues its commitment to Trent power with the launch on December 1 of its new luxury service to Australia with Trent 500 powered A340-500s. The Trent 500 is the sole powerplant for the A340-500 and -600.

Emirates also operates Trent powered Airbus Boeing 777s, proving the strength of the family of engines in the hot and harsh operating environment of the Middle East. The Rolls-Royce stand at the Dubai Air Show will also feature a quarter-scale model of the latest member of the Trent family - the Trent 900 - launch engine for the Airbus A380.

Charles Cuddington, Managing Director - Airlines, Rolls-Royce, said: "Our broad range of modern products and service options has proved attractive to long-standing customers such as Emirates and to newcomers to Rolls-Royce such as EgyptAir and Qatar, who will become the launch customer for the Airbus A340-600 Increased Gross Weight aircraft in June 2006.

"The Trent family has a market share of over 50 per cent on the new generation of wide-body airliners and we're seeing that trend reflected in this region."

Defence presence
Rolls-Royce has a major defence presence in the region, supporting nearly 1,000 engines operating with several armed forces. These have accumulated well over one million flying hours.

The Royal Saudi Air Force operates a major fleet of RB199-powered Tornado combat aircraft, provided under two stages of the Al Yamamah government-to-government trade deal with the UK. It also operates one of the biggest C130 fleets in the world, powered by the Rolls-Royce T56.

Adour engines, powering both Jaguar combat aircraft and Hawk trainers, are in service with several air forces including Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The company's significant presence in the global defence marketplace is well represented at the show with an illustration of the company's substantial involvement in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme, the latest variant Adour MK951 engine for the Hawk family of aircraft and the AE2100 which powers the latest version of the Hercules transport aircraft, the C130J.

Turboshaft engines are also represented in the shape of the class-leading RTM322 turboshaft and the Light Helicopter Turbine Engine Company (LHTEC) T800 engine.

John Boughton, Rolls-Royce Director of Sales and Marketing - Defence Aerospace, said: "The products on display highlight our involvement across the full spectrum of defence activities in the a range of new programmes, the capability to develop existing and new engines and the opportunity to extend our service offerings. It shows that Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace is well placed for the future."

Rolls-Royce is involved in the US/UK-led F35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) programme. The exhibit at Dubai illustrates the integration into the aircraft of the Rolls-Royce LiftFan(tm) and Three Bearing Swivel Module which will provide the aircraft with the unique short take-off vertical landing (STOVL) capability.
The STOVL components are designed to be interchangeable with both of the JSF's alternate powerplants, the F135, and the F136 in which Rolls-Royce has a 40 per cent share. Potential orders for the JSF are estimated at over 3,000 aircraft worldwide.

Derived from the Adour family that powers the world's most popular trainer aircraft, the MK951 incorporates technology from both the Trent and EJ200 engines, illustrating the company's ability to leverage expertise across its product line. The MK951 recently made its first successful flight in South Africa as part of its development programme.

To date, 2003 has been an excellent year for sales of the Adour engine, with major orders totalling up to 130 engines announced from Bahrain, the UK and India. More than 2,600 Adour engines have been produced and the Adour fleet has accumulated well over six million flying hours.

The Rolls-Royce position as the undisputed leader of the transport sector is illustrated by the presence of the AE2100 turboprop, which builds on the success of the T56, to power future generations of the Lockheed Martin C130 family. The popularity of the four-engined C130J continues, with a recent United States armed forces order for 60 aircraft producing an engine contract worth in excess of $300m. Rolls-Royce is also a 28 per cent shareholder in EuroProp International, which was recently selected to provide the TP400-D6 to power the Airbus A400M transport aircraft.

There are over 18,000 Rolls-Royce turboshaft engines in operation with approximately 4,500 operators in 130 nations around the world. Representing the broadest production turboshaft range in the industry is the RTM322, which stands as the customers' choice in its class having been selected by nearly 90 per cent of NH90 operators and for over 75 per cent of EH101 sales.

The LHTEC T800 engine, which has recently entered service with the Royal Malaysian Navy's Super Lynx fleet and is also designed to power the Boeing-Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche, is also featured.

With such a large installed base and a wide variety of customers, the military aftermarket offers a major opportunity to grow the business and Rolls-Royce Defence Aerospace has recently secured a number of significant contracts through its unique Mission Ready Management Solutions (MRMS) offering. Energy and Marine business in the region. In addition to civil aerospace and defence aerospace, Rolls-Royce also has a significant presence in the region through its other two main businesses - energy and marine.

Rolls-Royce engines are used for power generation and oil and gas operations in nine countries in the Middle East. Industrial Avons are used extensively by the Dubai Petroleum Company, which also employs the industrial RB211.

Avon, RB211 and Proteus gas turbines and a range of diesel engines are in service elsewhere including projects in Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The Rolls-Royce industrial Avon has achieved more than 50 million operating hours - a new world record for the 10-20MW aero-derivative gas turbine class. Around 1,200 industrial Avons have been sold and the unit recorded as breaking the milestone operates in Abu Dhabi with GASCO, one of the largest gas processing companies in the world.

In Saudi Arabia, a major customer is Saudi Aramco, the largest fully integrated oil company in the world. The company uses six Olympus engines on offshore platforms and 22 industrial gas turbines on Aramco's East West pipeline which cross the Arabian peninsula. A large number of Olympus and Avon gas turbines are also used in power generating installations around the Kingdom.

Rolls-Royce Marine is a world leader providing complete propulsion systems together with a unique range of ship designs for offshore supply and anchor handling vessels.
In the face of growing activity in the Middle East, Rolls-Royce Marine has set up a new sale and service office in Dubai in 2003 to look after customers across the region. Several hundred vessels registered in the Middle East have Rolls-Royce equipment on-board, together with the most of the region's navies and coast guards.

Rolls-Royce Marine provides complete propulsion solutions, product support and platform support services to shipowners and operators.

Syncrolift® is also a major part of Rolls-Royce Marine and 10 shiplift systems are in service in the region.

About Rolls-Royce
Rolls-Royce plc operates in four global markets -civil aerospace, defence aerospace, marine and energy. It is investing in technology and capability that can be exploited in each of these sectors to create a competitive range of products.

The success of these products is demonstrated by the company's rapid and substantial gains in market share over recent years. As a result, engine deliveries have grown and the company now has a total of 54,000 gas turbines in service worldwide. The investments in product, capability and infrastructure to gain this market position create high barriers to entry.
Rolls-Royce has a broad customer base comprising more than 500 airlines, 4,000 corporate and utility aircraft and helicopter operators, 160 armed forces and more than 2,000 marine customers, including 50 navies. The company has energy customers in nearly 120 countries. Rolls-Royce employs around 36,000 people, of which 22,000 are in the UK. Forty per cent of its employees are based outside the UK - including 5,000 in the rest of Europe and 8,000 in North America.

Most of the engines in service will have operational lives of 25 years or more, generating an assured aftermarket demand for the provision of spare parts and services. The company's strategy is to maximise aftermarket revenues which have increased by 60 per cent over the past five years due to the development of a comprehensive services capability.
Annual sales total nearly £6 billion, of which 50 per cent currently comes from aftermarket services. The order book stands at more than £17 billion, which, together with aftermarket demand, provides visibility as to future activity levels.
