Recently, the company won a contract to supply 11,000 square metres of EmiCool NN glass to the Formula One complex in Bahrain.

"We are increasingly breaching highly competitive international markets. This is our first entry into the UK market," said Jerry Dowling, General Manager of Emirates Glass.

The UK wins were announced at the Big 5 Show, which is running at the Dubai World Trade Centre until December 3. Emirates Glass is exhibiting its latest superior range of products at the show. Dowling also presented a paper on the latest developments in the glass industry at the annual Aluminium, Glazing and Curtain Walling Conference 2003 that was held alongside the show.

"The wins in the UK are particularly pleasing as - not only are they from internationally recognised clients - but they have come all the way to Dubai to source their supplies, rather than depend on closer-to-home, better-known suppliers.

Competitiveness of Dubai products
"This speaks volumes of the kind of international competitiveness that Dubai affords its resident producers," Dowling pointed out.

He said Emirates Glass will supply 5,000 square metres of glass to Astra Zeneca and Whitelands College projects in the UK. The contract to supply 3,500 square metres of glass to the Astra Zeneca project was signed with Eiffel Construction Metallique. The project has been designed by Shell Architects & Engineers.

For the Whitelands College, Emirates Glass signed the deal to supply 1,500 square metres of glass with Exterior Profiles. The project's architect is Sir Norman Forster.

Superior quality
The product to be supplied to both UK projects is EmiCool, which the producer claims provides the optimal balance between requirements to keep the heat balanced while at the same time providing enough indoor light and aesthetic appearances. The highly efficient EmiCool range also provides a good night view by reducing indoor reflection and helps save on electricity.

"A lot of hard work has gone into preparing our export strategy, which is now providing dividends. Our current exports stand at about 10 per cent of our production. We would, of course, like to raise this substantially over the next year - and I am sure we will," Dowling said.
