20, 20, 20 from Dubai Duty Free

The discount offer, which signals another first for the duty free operation, is open to all customers shopping at Dubai Duty Free on December 20th.

The 20% discount announcement comes within weeks of the operation announcing its major 20th Anniversary Charity Drive in which all of the daily sales generated on December 20th will be donated to local charities.

Commenting on this latest announcement, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai and Chairman of Emirates said :"The 20th anniversary is a major milestone for Dubai Duty Free, which is now one of the most successful duty free operations in the world. As such, it is important that the anniversary day is marked in an appropriate manner and both initiatives will certainly have a major impact on the local community and on international travellers."

The discount offer will run from midnight on the 19th December to midnight 20th December. During that time, 20% discount will be offered on an estimated 15,000 duty free products.

Commenting on the decision behind the discount offer, Colm McLoughlin, Managing Director of Dubai Duty Free said: "In addition to marking our anniversary by providing local charities with the proceeds of our daily sales, we decided to say a big thank you to all of our customers who have supported Dubai Duty Free over the years. We felt that offering 20% discount would be an effective way of doing that. Also, we hope that the discount offer will encourage an even greater level of spending, which in turn will mean an even greater charity donation."

Traditionally, December 20th is a high sales day for Dubai Duty Free and this year, with sales running an average of 20% above last year, it is hoped that the anniversary day will break the existing daily sales record of Dhs5.8 million (US$1.6 million) achieved on 24th October this year.

"It would be terrific to break the daily sales record on the anniversary day," added Mr. McLoughlin." I think the combination of the Charity Drive and the discount is going to create a fantastic atmosphere at Dubai Duty Free for the entire 24 hours."

The proceeds from the Dubai Duty Free Charity Drive will be presented to a select number of charities, including The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation. The presentations will take place at Dubai Duty Free in the days immediately following the anniversary day.
