Increasing demand for compact and lightweight devices throughout the region has contributed to Acer's strong economic performance in the mobile computing sector.

"Consumers in the Middle East are incredibly technology-savvy and strive to equip themselves with the highest quality products. At Acer we have witnessed the strong demand in the region for mobile technology products and we have responded to market needs by being the first to make new technologies available," said Philip Ashkar, director of sales and marketing, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.

"By focusing our attentions on meeting the mobility, security and accessibility needs of regional consumers, Acer has been able to boost its notebook revenue three fold in the Middle East."

With a strong track record for setting standards in the technology sector, Acer was the world's first IT company to introduce the tablet PC - with its capability to convert from the traditional laptop 'clamshell mode' for keyboard input to 'tablet mode' for use with a stylus pen.

More recently still, Acer was the first regional IT vendor to launch a tablet PC with Intel Mobile Centrino technology - the TravelMate C110.

Acer's range of mobile technology products, including its n10 Handheld PDA, will be on display at the First Palm, PDA, Pocket PC, Tablet PC and Handheld Computing Devices Summit for the Middle East and Gulf Region. The event, which is being held on December 9 and 10 at the Emirates Towers Hotel, has attracted the attention of more than 40 international exhibitors.

"Taking part in an inaugural event like this gives the team from Acer the opportunity to discuss the advantages of our technology to a vast number of people from varying industries. At Acer, we have experienced strong demand from people working in the medical, travel, investment and hospitality fields," said Ijaz Anwer, corporate sales manager, Acer Computer (M.E.) Ltd.

"Exhibiting in this show will also give us increased access to developers, distributors, resellers and end-users from across the region. We can demonstrate firsthand how Acer's technology delivers in terms of performance, innovation and price," Ijaz added.
