Dubai to be featured in a special programme on German TV

Dubai, a sought-after business and leisure destination for Germans, will be under the public spotlight with a hugely popular German TV programme, which will devote an entire episode exclusively on the emirate as an all-appealing and safest round-the-year destination.

A five-member crew of the NDR, the regional public TV and radio network of the northern Germany, on today completed their 10-day visit to the emirate hosted by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) as part of its aggressive global promotional agenda to promote the destination in key and emerging source markets and enhance the international appeal of Dubai.

The show on Dubai in 'Weltbilder' programme is slated to be broadcast this weekend. The show's editor and presenter, Juliane Eisenfuhr, said: "Weltbilder is a weekly TV programme featuring reports from foreign countries, broadcast on Wednesdays from 21:45 hours to 22:15 hours".

The crew members carried out the aerial filming of Dubai's towering and historical landmarks during the trip conducted in a Dubai Police helicopter.

Dubai Police Air Wing's First Lt. Khalfan Al Mazrouei and his colleague Mohammed Salem Al Amiri, and Ahmed Othman, DTCM Officer Missions, assisted the crew during the tour.

Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, DTCM Manager Missions, said: "The department accords high importance to the German market and the energetic efforts has resulted in a significant increase in the number of German tourists coming to Dubai. German media has been very supportive of the initiatives taken up by DTCM and gives prominence and extensive coverage, both in print and electronically."

Dubai is a favourite destination for many Germans as it offers round-the-year sunshine, pristine beaches, safety, and recreational and shopping attractions.

The crew members were amazed with Dubai's world-class infrastructure and all its ambitious development projects designed to carve out a bigger global market share.

A total of 171,140 German guests stayed in Dubai hotels and hotel apartments in 2002, an increase of 15.19 per cent from the previous year.

Dubai trade with Germany increased by about 31.20 per cent in 2002 compared with 2001. There are currently 107 German tour operators featuring Dubai in their programmes.
