Product safety has always been a primary concern at Nokia and we have fought against counterfeit batteries for a number of years. Original Nokia batteries are designed and manufactured adhering to stringent safety and quality measures. Independent testing has verified the safety of Nokia original batteries, including test results from Test-Aankoop in Belgium, released on November 17, 2003.

As the counterfeit batteries and the poor quality third-party batteries cause potential dangers to the consumers, Nokia recommends that consumers only purchase and use original Nokia batteries. Measures to ensure this include: using only original battery included in the Nokia phone sales package, buying new batteries only from authorized Nokia dealers, avoiding purchase of batteries without proper sales packaging and avoiding low priced batteries.

Nokia recognizes that it is predominantly other parties than the consumers who are responsible for limiting this problem, as some of the counterfeit batteries resemble closely the original products and it is sometimes difficult for a consumer to identify a counterfeit product from a original one.

Thus retailers are in the key position in making sure that only safe and high quality batteries are for sell to consumers. Therefore Nokia urges retailers to ensure they only use official channels when purchasing Nokia batteries. Nokia's local sales teams are available to help the retailers to identify reliable sources for original Nokia batteries.

In addition, Nokia continues to undertake aggressive legal measures to prevent counterfeit batteries coming to the market. Nokia has regional anti-counterfeit programs ongoing and works closely with authorities in several countries so that charges can be brought against manufacturers of and traders in counterfeit and unsafe compatible batteries.

Already tens of thousands of counterfeit batteries have been seized in recent raids in Holland, the United Kingdom, and other countries in the EU. As a result of these raids, authorities gained valuable leads on a network of counterfeit manufacturers and distributors, enabling authorities to begin immediate actions against those involved.

If you want to verify the origin of your battery, please contact the retail outlet where you bought the battery.
