  • United Arab Emirates: Sunday, December 14 - 2003 at 15:59
  • PRESS RELEASE

Ten leading tour operators from the UK are in Dubai for a week to explore the facilities and attractions that have made the emirate a sought-after Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) destination.

Their tour has been organized as part of the 'Dubai Synergy', a year-long initiative launched by the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to raise the international profile of the emirate as a round-the-year MICE destination with world-class infrastructure and services.

Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, DTCM Manager Missions, said the six-day tour organized for the travel professionals include visits to the Dubai International Convention Centre and Al Maha Resort.

This is the fifth group of specialized tour operators to be hosted by the DTCM under the ground-breaking promotional scheme ending in April 2004.

A total of eight missions are planned to be conducted for the benefit of 70 select travel industry professionals from the UK and Ireland.

The educational visits scheme involves the partnership of 18 hotels and eight tour operators in addition to Emirates Airline and Gulf Air.

Mr. bin Mejren said: "Dubai Synergy is a major public-private sector undertaking targeting the meetings and incentive travel organizers. The MICE sector will play a very important role and contribute significantly in increasing the number of visitors to Dubai."

Helen Chan from DTCM's UK and Ireland Representative Office, who is accompanying the group, said the familiarization trip will help a great deal in creating further awareness about Dubai's tourist attractions and MICE facilities in two of Dubai's key tourism source markets.

Mr. Abdullah bin Suwaidan, DTCM Executive Missions, gave a presentation to the group during their visit to the DTCM Head Office and offered them insights into the Dubai's MICE strengths and tourist attractions. They were provided with literature about Dubai.

Dubai Synergy has been created to pool the skills, experiences, and resources of some of Dubai's best suppliers to collectively showcase Dubai's exclusive and creative product diversity.

Dubai Synergy will also ensure that meetings and incentive travel organisers gain vital knowledge about the well-positioned destination.
