To mark the partnership which will be undertaken in conjunction with the group, two environmental campaigns planned to be launched early 2004.

EMAAR and EEG are planning a tree planting campaign to be undertaken in conjunction with Dubai Municipality for early 2004. Families and residents of The Greens development will be invited to plant trees in designated areas with a plaque bearing the owners name. Only indigenous plants will be introduced to the development.

In addition, a curb-side campaign will also be introduced at The Greens as part of a recycling education programme. Residents will be encouraged to throw paper, cans and plastic products into three differently coloured boxes, which are then recycled for further use.

"EEG is a highly respected organisation and has done great work to raise awareness on environmental protection and preservation in the UAE," said Mansour Al Othaimin, Executive Director, Sales and Marketing, EMAAR Properties. "EEG is devoted to protecting the environment through education, action oriented programmes and community involvement and we believe it is our responsibility to be a part of this."

Commenting on EMAAR's membership, Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson, EEG said: " It is so important for property developers to be aware of the environment. It is within their power to enhance the natural assets or destroy them in the construction process. They have the responsibility to develop with care and to follow eco-friendly practices. We are therefore pleased that EMAAR has come to the forefront as a developer with a difference and look forward to undertake a range of projects with them as partners."

EEG is a voluntary, non-government organisation (NGO) devoted to protecting the environment and is actively encouraged by Dubai's Department of Economic Development and supported by concerned local and federal government agencies. EEG is the first environmental NGO in the world to be accredited with the ISO 14001 certification for its environment managements system.
