According to IDC figures just released for the third calendar quarter of 2003, HP maintained its position as the number one vendor of desktops and mobile computing products across the Middle East, the Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region as a whole.

With a year-on-year growth of 16%, HP landed first place ranking a 23.2% market share in the desktop and mobile portfolio, followed by the next runner-up at a mere 9%. The company increased its market leadership over rivals to 32.4 percent in the Middle East in the mobile market, ranking at least ten percentage points ahead of the next competitor.

Earnings in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hit the spot landing HP a 33.6% market share in the desktop and mobile market and a whopping 34.7% share of the desktop space. Fierce competition managed to land itself under an 11% market share.

"We continue to grow our business and achieve excellent results across all form factors, despite the dynamic competitive arena," said Christoph Schell, General Manager, HP Personal Systems Group (PSG). "As operations at HP's PC plant in the Kingdom take off, we expect more orders to start rolling in. We have a commitment to home-grown technology in the Arab world and are confident that the assembly plant will cater to the booming business needs in the market."

The Egyptian landscape also looked good for HP. The company clearly led the market with a 45.3% share in mobile products, 9.8% in the desktop market. IDC results further validated UAE customers' demand for HP's computing portfolio. Landing a 30.3% market share in the mobile space and 32.3% in the desktop range, HP was once again, the champion.

HP offers a broad portfolio of mobile computing offerings and state-of-the-art desktops designed to meet the sophisticated demands of consumers, small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers. The company recently introduced the widest range of HP iPAQs and the award winning Centrino notebook the HP Compaq nx7000 series.
