The show, which has a run up to 24th December 2003, has received a spirited response from regional businessmen and professionals, with attendance from 2,879 trade visitors from 23 countries on the exhibition's first day.

The seminar highlighted the opportunities and potential of Malaysia's Multimedia Super Corridor, an Information and Communications Technology corridor spread across a 15km by 50 km area in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Described as one of the world's most exciting Information & Communications Technology initiatives offered by the Malaysian government to the global community, MSC is governed by innovative cyber-laws, policies and practises that enable operating companies to harness the full potential of information communications technology and multimedia.

With this unique Corridor, Malaysia aims to attract leading companies of the world to locate their multimedia industries in the country, undertake research, develop new products and technologies, and export from this base.

Equipped with world-class physical and information infrastructure, MSC's boundaries extend from the Petronas Twin Towers at the Kuala Lumpur city centre in the north to the new world-class Kuala Lumpur International Airport in the south. It is also an integrated logistics hub with rapid rail links to Kuala Lumpur and a smart highway system. The MSC is supported by a word class high capacity global communications and logistics network built on 2.5 10 gigabits digital fibre optic backbone.

'The MSC was conceived to be the main engine to position Malaysia as a competitive knowledge based economy with information and communications technology as the enabler. It is also an integrated environment with unique elements and attributes put in place for the creation of an ideal global multimedia climate' said Datuk Dr. Mohammed Arif Nun, the CEO of Multimedia Development Corporation of Malaysia.

The MSC offers innovators and entrepreneurs a chance to harness Malaysia's unique competitive advantages that arise from its multicultural links, committed leadership and proven track record in developing products and services for regional and global markets.

'To date, Malaysia has successfully attracted a core group of world class companies into the MSC, put in place a world leading framework for cyber-laws, established Cyberjaya and Putrajaya as the world's first-intelligent cities. Thanks to the MSC, Malaysia also has the distinction of being the only government in the world to have launched several Flagship Applications nationwide. The Flagship Applications initiative include the E-Government, Multimedia Card, Smart School, Technopreneur Development, Telehealth and E-Business', Datuk Dr. Mohammed Arif Nun concluded.

The Caravan Malaysia 2003 Show at Expo Centre Sharjah features 200 companies showcasing over 2500 products and services. Included are the latest digital entertainment technology and smart home gadgets including cars and buses.

The exhibition emphasizes on quality, style, innovation, technology and functionality of the products and also acts as a window to Malaysia's rich culture, with daily cultural performances, handicraft demonstrations and other presentations offering a taste of Malaysian culture to visitors.

The show is open everyday from 20 to 24 December 2003, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm to traders and from 4.30 pm to 9.30 pm to the general public and trade.
