- Kuwait: Sunday, December 28 - 2003 at 13:46
- PRESS RELEASE
Wataniya Telecom announced today that there has been a huge uptake of its 'Action' services over the last two months, with more than 15,000 subscribers actively using the operator's advanced GPRS and MMS 'Action' branded services by mid December.
"We have seen a significant change in the communication lifestyles of mobile phone users after our launch of Action services. Wataniya customers are not only increasingly sending photo messages within Wataniya but also to friends and family in Kuwait and to emails around the world. Wataniya's Customers are also finding great value and entertainment in the wide range of MMS content services which we offer "said David Murray, General Manager and CEO of Wataniya Telecom.
With over 25,000 multimedia messages being exchanged on a daily basis, Wataniya Telecom is expanding its capacity to meet an accelerating adaptation of GPRS and MMS services. The company expects to have well over 25,000 active 'Action' customers by January having recently averaged over 1,000 new MMS and GPRS activations per day. Last month, Wataniya Telecom signed an MMS interconnectivity agreement with MTC-Vodafone that allows Kuwaiti customers for the first time to exchange multimedia messages with anyone in Kuwait. The agreement marked a significant event in terms of MMS developments both in Kuwait and the regional market.
"As Action services can also be accessed and managed online, the massive uptake of subscribers has also substantially increased the traffic on our corporate website to 1.7 million hits in December alone. We want to continue to build on this success and deliver even more value through more surprises and exclusive benefits that we will be offering to the Kuwaiti mobile market," continued Murray.
Action subscribers can send and receive photo messages, access Qu'ranic verses, Blue Mountain Arts e-cards, wallpapers, movie previews, news on the latest fashion and lifestyle accessories, Arabic comics, Garfield, Ziggy and Heathcliff comics, celebrity and music news, screensavers, cartoons and horoscopes, compose and send greeting cards and access the Internet as well as their email accounts (from Hotmail to Yahoo and other popular local providers).
As part of a promotion started on the 15th of December, Wataniya Telecom is offering all its post-paid and pre-paid customers with GPRS and MMS enabled handsets a free-trial promotion where they can subscribe to 'Action' and have unlimited access to all 'Action' services for no charge. Wataniya will be launching a new pricing scheme for its 'Action' services from the 1st of January by removing all subscription charges and charging on a per unit basis for all its MMS services and a per usage basis for Internet and e-mail access.
