Egypt enforces technology tools in elementary students

Within the framework of activities for implementing the National Plan for communications and information technology, the Ministry signed yesterday an MOU with the Ministry of Education and Oracle to launch think.com in schools of Egypt.

Implementing think.com, an educational environment new in Egypt for elementary students and teachers, is a reinforcement of the efforts of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of CIT to boost ICT & learning aiming to create a future dependant on next generation learners and leaders.

think.com is a free, web-based environment for primary and secondary students and teachers, designed to assist schools to incorporate state-of-the-art technology for educational purposes. Solutions are specifically designed to support and stimulate interactive collaboration and e-learning programs; bringing Internet resources into classrooms worldwide using Oracle technologies. think.com provides an innovative environment that allows students around the globe to develop technology skills necessary to communicate and prosper.

The Ministry of Education is to recommend qualified schools to participate in the program. In addition, the Ministry will handle management of the project and conduct necessary monitoring to measure achievements. Correspondingly, MCIT, as part of its e-learning initiative, will supply the project with 300 PCs and advanced telecommunications connectivity for 30 schools. Furthermore, the Ministry will handle the project evaluation during the one-year pilot phase to ensure sustainability of the program and continuous cooperation with the Ministry of Education. On its part, Oracle will deploy think.com in schools providing content of the training, online tutorial packages, training of the trainers, and technical consulting. Notably, Worldwide, Egypt is the seventh country to implement the program.

Think.com provides each teacher and student with a protected email account and a personal web page where he/she can publish text, upload images and host discussions within the Think.com community. Accessible from a standard web browser, student members can stay connected to their classrooms from home, school or the library. Teachers can use Think.com to post multimedia classroom activities, provide online project team environments, and teach technology skills to their students. Think.com is a free, centrally hosted and man service to all participating schools.
