They will be involved in ensuring that the venues that attract so many visitors are safe and also more appealing and inviting than previous years.

Colonel Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Director, Dubai Civil Defence, said, "We are making safe and appealing the various activities and events in Dubai during DSF 2004. In the Global Village alone, we are expecting more than 70,000 visitors daily, and the other venues too will have comparable numbers. These will all call for special preparations to offer the utmost safety for visitors and residents."

"The Safety Committee has worked very closely with the Supreme Committee in order to make provisions for safety arrangements in pavilions, kiosks, tents, restaurants and all other DSF locations around the city. An emergency plan has been drawn up and all necessary facilities are in place, at the Global Village and at other venues. This initiative is led by Major Mohammed Bin Naseeb, Head of Fire Centre Section, Major Ibrahim Al Sayegh, Head of Fire and Safety Section. A special team has been formed to test the safety of hydraulic games for children", he added.

Inspectors will commence their checks on equipment and conditions at all the venues. Four main check-points have been set up by the Civil Defence, at Global Village, Heritage and Diving Village, Al Muraqabbat Street and Desert Camp, in addition to the permanent points across the city. The Fireworks safety plan has been drawn up and implemented by Major Abdul Rahim Al Marri, Marine and Fire Rescue Office, especially at Dubai Creek.

During Ladies Days at the DSF 2004 venues, a team of volunteers from Dubai Women's College was trained to do the needful, to use wireless communication devices and to deal with the public at times of emergency.

50 fire extinguishers have been distributed all over the Global Village. A badge will be provided for children, to help identify them in case they are separated from their parents.

Colonel Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi thanked the Civil Defence Administration and the Regional Offices that support the Civil Defence during DSF 2004, in addition to many other departments that are helping in maintaining safety and security. Fono Distribution Services, ETA, Shell, International Paints Factories Ltd., Safe and Secure, NAFCO, Danoi and others are companies that have contributed to Civil Defence presence during DSF 2004.
