Established in December 2000, the clinic quickly established a reputation for providing solid advice for patients concerned about their weight, and about the possible health implications of their condition. Based in Deira, Dubai, The Ultra Care Medical Group has help a wide variety of patients with their weight concerns.

'We recognized early on that medical education had a key role to play in combating obesity in the UAE. Obesity is an international epidemic - projections suggest that as many as one in four people will be classified as obese in the near future - and we felt that education had a key role to play in combating the problem,' said Dr. Imad El-Din Ginawi El-Sadig of the Ultra Care Medical Group.

In addition to its pioneering work developing weight management programs for patients, the Ultra Care Medical Group also supported a series of health promotion campaigns, encouraging people to ask their doctor for advice around weight loss and avoiding obesity.

'Patients have come to recognize that their physician can play a big part in helping them to lose weight and avoid putting the weight back on. There isn't a quick fix for obesity, which is a long-term, chronic condition, so it's important to take a professionals' advice about a realistic weight loss program,' commented Dr. Imad.

'Much of our work has been aimed at raising awareness of the potential health benefits of consulting your doctor, in addition to helping people understand the importance of daily moderate exercise and a healthy, balanced diet,' added Dr. Imad.

Experts at the Ultra Care Medical Group cite a number of positive steps forward they have observed over the past three years. These include an increase in awareness around issues such as childhood obesity, the potential of major initiatives in the UAE such as Dubai Healthcare City in promoting health education, and the improvements in the approved medications available to help people lose weight.

'The medical community can now offer strong resources to help combat the problem, in the form of approved medications, and there is growing acceptance of the positive role that these treatments can play in a proactive weight management program,' said Dr. Imad.

A number of medications are available that help treat obesity, such as Reductil, a medicine that helps overweight and obese people shed pounds and keep them off.
