VERITAS simplifies and streamlines disaster recovery for Middle East's heterogeneous environments
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 21 - 2004 at 10:54
- PRESS RELEASE
The Middle East operations of VERITAS Software Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTS), the leading storage software provider, today announced the availability of VERITAS Bare Metal Restore 4.7, disaster recovery software designed to automate the rapid server recovery of heterogeneous enterprises, providing a data 'always available' value aligned with the company's utility computing strategy.
"Organizations want to recover from planned and unplanned downtime in swift, simple steps that do not interfere with their daily operations," said Dianne McAdam, senior analyst and partner, Data Mobility Group. "Software that simplifies and automates the recovery process enables enterprises to efficiently get systems back up and running and ensure business continuity."
Bare Metal Restore technology helps organizations reduce the time it takes to restore their information environments after a system failure by automating the multiple, manual-intensive tasks required to restore a failed system. VERITAS Bare Metal Restore features "dissimilar system restore," which allows administrators to restore a Windows system to target hardware that is completely different than the original source hardware, more cost-effectively utilizing existing IT server investment and helping to get critical business data back online faster.
New features of VERITAS Bare Metal Restore 4.7 include:
• External Procedures: The ability to create custom scripts at various points within the data recovery process to help automate and simplify database and application recovery
• Expanded Platform Support: New support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, IBM AIX 5.2 and Microsoft Windows Server 2003
The new external procedures capability allows administrators to insert custom scripts within the data recovery process allowing for the automation of database and application recovery, traditionally a separate step outside the data restoration process and performed by separate IT staff. With the external procedures feature, server, database and application recovery can be performed in fewer steps through automation to reduce manual error and allow for rapid recovery of data.
"This new version of Bare Metal Restore provides IT departments across the Middle East with the technology to help ensure data availability and business continuity for their customers by insulating end users from a simple system failure right through to a complete site outage," said Satish Shenoy, Sales Manager, VERITAS Software Middle East. "Bare Metal Restore allows organizations to respond to hardware component failures quickly and efficiently, driving higher application availability."
Availability
VERITAS Bare Metal Restore 4.7 is available at the beginning of February 2004 at no additional cost to current Bare Metal Restore customers with support and maintenance contracts.
