- United Arab Emirates: Monday, January 26 - 2004 at 13:30
- PRESS RELEASE
In keeping with the requirement of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Dubai International Airport has received the aerodrome certificate from the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Department of Civil Aviation and Chairman Emirates Group, commented: "Safety is paramount concern at any airport. At Dubai International Airport we ensure that there is no compromise whatsoever. All safety measures are strictly followed and this certification is a measure of the importance placed in maintaining safety procedures."
Last year ICAO, responsible for the safety in global air operations, stipulated that all international airports should be certified to ensure provision of safe and adequate aerodrome facilities as mandated in ICAO convention. Conforming to the ICAO regulations, the GCAA, the regulator for UAE, established a licensing programme for airports in the UAE to ensure highest level of safety for the travelling public and airlines.
Mr Mohammad Ahli, Director Operations, DCA, commented at the opening of the workshop: "The Operations Division has worked hard in achieving this certificate. Practical sessions were conducted regarding the documentation and operational procedures followed by a process of internal auditing prior to formal audit by the authority. With the certification we as operators are now expected to meet the obligations in accordance with the terms and conditions of the certificate. We have a very high responsibility on our shoulders."
