Powerful new IBM eServer x360 with 'Mainframe Pedigree' Enterprise X-Architecture
- United Arab Emirates: Monday, February 11 - 2002 at 16:41
- PRESS RELEASE
IBM has announced that it is now shipping the new IBM eServer x360 in the Middle East market, bringing to local customers the industry's first Intel-based servers featuring the IA-32 Intel Xeon Processor MP and incorporating IBM's Enterprise X-Architecture technology.
The IBM eServer x360 pioneers a compact rack design powered by Intel's new Xeon Processor MP and IBM's XA-32 chipset - code named "Summit" - that features IBM's most advanced Copper chip breakthroughs. This unique architecture enables the x360 to offer customers forty percent more processors per rack while taking up a third less floor space than competing systems.
Built with technology from IBM's Project eLiza initiative, IBM's blueprint for developing computers that can monitor themselves and adapt to changing conditions, the eServer x360 is the industry's only Intel server that offers multiple layers of self-healing technologies designed to allow the system to continue operating - even through system errors or failures.
In addition, the eServer x360's optional RXE-100 Remote Expansion Enclosure, which allows customers to increase I/O bandwidth without requiring them to pay for a full system upgrade is now shipping.
"IBM's Enterprise X-Architecture is a whole new chapter in Intel-based servers. We've taken the technologies that have made our mainframes legendary for their 'zero downtime' reliability and performance, and brought them into the Intel-based server space. We can now give our customer in this region a server platform that meets their budget requirements, but still gives them mainframe-like manageability, fault tolerance and reliability," said Andy Parkinson, Sales Manager IBM eServer xSeries, Middle East, Egypt, Pakistan.
Three years ago IBM committed to making its Intel server business a top priority - now, Big Blue is reaping the harvest with the industry's first servers based on Intel's latest processors, and featuring IBM's unique "mainframe pedigree" Enterprise X-Architecture, the industry's only mainframe-like technology that bridges today's 32-bit applications with tomorrow's 64-bit systems.
"With Enterprise X-Architecture, you can upgrade your high-end Intel-based servers, rather than replace them when your needs expand," said Parkinson. "With our building block modules, much like stereo components, you can 'Pay as You Grow' and add more processing power as you need it. Enterprise X-Architecture brings server consolidation and physical partitioning to Intel servers for workload consolidation to support multiple operating systems - including Windows, Linux and others. As importantly, Enterprise X-Architecture includes an array of new Project eLiza self-managing technologies to help decrease server downtime. We've leveraged the whole of IBM's 'zero downtime' heritage in this effort."
"Intel is excited to see the great progress IBM has made with the Enterprise X-Architecture chipset," said Mike Fister, Vice President and General Manager, Enterprise and Platform Group, Intel. "It offers Intel-based server customers additional platform flexibility and choice. Intel always encourages innovation, but it's especially exciting to see IBM - an established name in enterprise computing - embrace Intel's enterprise products for one of its core server product lines. Intel believes the Enterprise X-Architecture will offer customers additional performance and is a complementary technology for Intel-based servers."
