- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, January 28 - 2004 at 13:45
- PRESS RELEASE
Mr. Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al Mutaiwee, the Director General of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called on Mozambique businessmen to make a bigger effort in promoting their country and its wealth of resources in the UAE.
At the meeting, Al Mutaiwee pointed out that the UAE and Mozambique have many common factors which both countries should take advantage of. He also highlighted the fact that in addition to Mozambique's rich resources of fresh products, tourism is a very important aspect which attracts the attention of the UAE. The geographical positions of both countries mean that Dubai's residents can escape the heat of the local summers and go to Mozambique's cool winters.
Mr. Al Mutaiwee added that Mozambique could benefit from Dubai's fast paced development, and explained that the UAE markets are rife with competition among exporters, in both quality and price. This requires the producers to make a bigger effort to send commercial delegations, and to participate in the international exhibitions held in Dubai. He also said that these exhibitions are visited by businessmen from most countries which enhance the importance of participation.
The Consul General thanked Mr. Al Mutaiwee for his valuable advice, and highlighted that Mozambique has enjoyed great relations with the Arab world in general for a very long time. He said that relations with Dubai are on the right track, as many businessmen from Dubai go to Mozambique for gold and semi precious stones, in addition to tea and Mangoes.
Mr. Al Mutaiwee agreed that relations are on the right track, but said that the trade figures do not reflect the potential possibilities for trade. He added that the availability of a shipping line and an airline would greatly enhance those commercial relations between the two countries.
The Consul General expressed that his term in Dubai has been a great experience for him, but that it has been cut short due to his promotion to 1st Ambassador in Botswana. Although, he stressed that he will persevere in consolidating relations between his country and the UAE even after he transfers.
Dubai's non-oil total foreign trade with Mozambique was over 126 million AED, with total imports being 90 million AED.
