This growth trend has inspired numerous companies to participate in the Middle East International Boat Show to be held March 20-23, 2002 at Airport Expo Dubai, which will feature a range of products, including the newest in outboard motors, boating accessories, and radio telecommunications products for the marine sector.

According to Trading Enterprises, the representative for Honda in the UAE, the escalating demand for outboard engines and marine equipment can be attributed to many factors that will sustain the sector's growth in the long-term. 'There is immense growth potential in this sector in the Gulf and Middle East regions - high disposable incomes, coupled with a superb coastline, strong government support for marina development and expanding tourism are key factors that will continue to sustain the growth of the marine sector in this region,' said Guy Edmunds, Sales & Marketing Manager for Trading Enterprises.

Edmunds said Trading Enterprises total sales in marine products grew by 155 per cent between 1999 and 2000, as compared to 136 per cent growth rate between 1998 and 1999. He said sales really began taking off in 1999, likely due to the growth in marine and boating infrastructure throughout the region. Edmunds also said the company will use MEIBS 2002 to launch the world's first over 200 hp four stroke outboard engines in the Middle East and Africa.

MEIBS 2002 will host a strong local contingent of marine suppliers, which will be complemented by several international players, including organizations from Canada, the UK, Australia, Italy. Among the local players will be two of the region's largest outboard motor suppliers, Trading Enterprises and Al Yousuf Motors/Al Yousuf Industrial Est., the regional distributor for Yamaha. In addition, visitors will have an opportunity to explore the newest high-tech options in telecommunications for boating enthusiasts.

Regular MEIBS exhibitor, Radio Holland, distributors in the Gulf region of the Furuno marine electronic brand from Japan will exhibit the revolutionary new satellite SC-60 compass integrating GPS technology. 'We will also be showcasing the new X/S band radars, the same equipment featured on the Gulf Craft 118' Millenium Yacht recently delivered to the USA. In addition, the new Navnet integrated navigation system will be on display, providing marine enthusiasts with some new options,' said Rudi Joustra of Radio Holland.
