- PRESS RELEASE
Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC), the leading international IT company, has delivered outstanding results for the fourth quarter of 2003 in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region, with an overall year-on-year growth of 27.3 per cent, against the market growth of 19.7 per cent, according to preliminary data released by analyst research firm International Data Corporation (IDC).
In the overall PC market, the key markets of Egypt and Saudi Arabia figure prominently among the countries that beat the market growth having registered a double digit growth. The overall year-on-year growth in the fourth quarter of 2003, in Saudi Arabia was 528.9 per cent and 53.4 per cent in Egypt.
"The impressive growth recorded by Fujitsu Siemens Computers in the MENA region is the direct result of our focused business strategy that included significant investment in demand generation and brand enhancement initiatives throughout 2003," said Jacquie Carson, Marketing & Communications Director, Fujitsu Siemens Computers. "We invested heavily in Educational and Training activities with the Sales and Technical staff of our Partners throughout the region in a series of dedicated workshops and seminars. We deployed a highly effective channel infrastructure and took aggressive measures to expand our channel in a bid to reach out to new markets. We also gave strong priority to developing local resources to consolidate our market position."
"Our business development strategies were focused on highlighting the cutting edge technology that places our products among the most advanced in the market, ideally suited to modern professionals whose needs are driven by mobility and business critical computing," added Carson. "We are particularly pleased with the outstanding results we have achieved in the key markets of Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The success in these markets is a pointer to a better future performance in the rest of the MENA region, boosted by an IT-friendly environment in most countries, with the governments themselves leading the drive for automation and private companies eager to deploy more advanced IT systems."
Product-wise, the fourth quarter year-on-year sales increase of 27.3 per cent was represented by 12.6 per cent growth in desktops, 87.5 per cent in Notebooks and 25.6 per cent in Intel Architecture servers. The overall growth was the third highest among all players.
For the calendar year 2003, the overall sales increase across all product categories of FSC rose by 13.9 per cent, with Notebooks accounting for 73.4 per cent, servers 28.2 per cent and desktops 0.5 per cent, according to IDC figures.
In Germany, FSC retained the No. 1 slot, with an 18.4 per cent market share in the overall PC market. Additionally, the company maintained its leading position in the desktop segment, outperforming mobile PC and IA server markets.
The overall results for the fourth quarter of 2003 and the calendar year 2003 have considerably consolidated FSC's market position as the No. 3 player in the EMEA market. The double-digit and triple-digit growth in mobile products in most countries indicates the success of the company's focus on mobility and business critical computing, the two main pillars of the Digital Age.
