Regional book sales up 25 per cent over last year
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, February 04 - 2004 at 11:24
- PRESS RELEASE
Book sales regionally and internationally have increased dramatically in the past year, thanks mainly to the success of the Harry Potter series and a revival of interest in the Lord of the Rings, according to Bharat Jashanmal, managing director of online retail site Hadaiya.com.
According to Jashanmal, book sales in the region rose by as much as 25 per cent in 2003, but the most startling increase was found online, where regional book sales increased by an estimated 50 per cent across all internet retailers in 2003.
Furthermore, he states that the internet boom that has seen books become the best-selling sector in online sales around the world shows no sign of slowing down.
Jashanmal said: "Sales of books and DVDs already make up 24 per cent of the online market around the globe, with books dominating the market, and the global spotlight on fiction is likely to see this market share increase further.
"This sector seems to keep on growing, in tandem with the increase in the number of shoppers online, as consumers see it as a safe bet for online purchase."
Jashanmal is prepared for further growth in online book sales, with Hadaiya.com - the online retail site for American Express Cardmembers, administered by Jashanmal & Sons - already beating their global rivals on price.
He added: "We are committed to the growth on online book sales, and are already making our mark by offering titles at up to 33 per cent lower than the leading global site. What's more, Hadaiya.com pledges to be able to locate any title currently in print - a key draw for the consumer."
Trevor Stokes, president and CEO of American Express Middle East and North Africa, added: "We have to deliver on product, price and service to our Cardmembers - and our growing book sector is just one sign of this ongoing commitment."
Thanks to competitive shipping rates from Hadaiya.com's key delivery alliance, DHL, Jashanmal claims the cost of books to the consumer is reduced by up to 33 per cent.
Hadaiya.com is described by the management team as a pioneering retail site that ensures ease of purchase and delivery of an evolving collection of exclusive, designer-touched, novelty "must-have" collectable items.
