  • PRESS RELEASE

Those visiting the Global Village on Mondays - Ladies Day - will notice firefighters keeping a vigilant eye on the surroundings, ready to respond immediately to any call for help or crisis.

What is unusual about these firefighters is the fact that they are all women. Sponsored by Shell, the group of 12 volunteers are students from the Dubai College of Higher Technology.
Said Hussain Al Mahmoudi, External Affairs Manager, Shell Markets Middle East: "At Shell, we believe in equal opportunities for women which is in line with the UAE's vision in encouraging women to participate actively in building a better society. Volunteering for such a highly responsible job underlines the seriousness of these students and Shell is extremely proud to be supporting such determination and resolve."

With an intensive three-week training course under their belt that included health and safety, wireless communication, interaction with visitors during an emergency and first aid, the women are primed to cope with any crisis situation at the Global Village.

The band of volunteers are constantly checking on the health and safety aspects of the Global Village including potential fire hazards and ensuring that visitors and exhibitors alike observe all the required precautions.
