Tenth edition of CABSAT set to open today

Organisers Dubai World Trade Centre announced that the 10th edition of the Middle East International Cable, Satellite, Broadcast and Communications Exhibition (CABSAT - 8th to 10th February) would be inaugurated by His Excellency Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer, the UAE Minister of Transportation and Communications today.

'CABSAT has stirred up a keen interest from international exhibitors this year and companies representing leading cable, satellite, broadcast and communications fields are participating at the event from more than 27 countries around the world,' said DWTC Director General, Mubarak bin Fahad.

He noted that the boom in the regional technology and media industry in the region, and the range of new business opportunities in the broadcast, communications and media technology fields specifically in the sectors of new satellites, VSAT, digital compression and the sustained and healthy competition among pay TV and free-to-air channels have opened up an excess of new business avenues in the region.

Alongside the main exhibition, several exhibitors have reserved sessions for seminars, presentations and workshops at CABSAT.

Among the seminars and presentations include one by Glocom - a Harmonic solution provider in the Middle East. Harmonic Inc is a leading provider of Digital Video, broadband optical networking and IP delivery systems to cable, satellite, telecom and broadcast network operators. Harmonic's open standards-based solutions for the headend through the last mile enable customers to develop new revenue sources and a competitive advantage by offering powerful interactive video, voice and data service such as video-on-demand, high definition digital television, telephony and Internet access.

Another exhibitor, MediaCom, will be using the event to launch its HYUNDAI branded high-end and high quality satellite receivers with the latest technology and solutions. MediaCom is a leader in the satellite receiving equipment industry in the Middle East, North Africa and The Sub-Continent.

LUXSAT will provide a presentation on how the end user can take control of the television. Luxsat is launching the world's first real entertainment on-demand satellite TV service on February 8th at the event. Luxstation, an all in one home entertainment system complete with DVD player and keyboard is being introduced and subscribers will be able to create their own personal profiles and select the entertainment they want to watch. Hundreds of movies per year, a broad selection of TV programs and 3D video games are offered 'on demand from the comfort of the couch.

Dalet will conduct a presentation on adopting a pragmatic approach to digital archiving. An increasing number of broadcasters and organizations are considering IT based systems to digitize their media archives. Implementing digital media libraries so as to ensure the proper preservation of legacy archives has been recognized as a priority. This presentation offers several case studies and suggests a new approach to implementing a successful digital archiving strategy - one that will get approval and support from management!

EVS, JVC Broadcast, Hitachi Broadcast and Desisti Lighting among others will also be conducting presentations along side the exhibition.

'We are eager to meet and exceed our visitor's specifications and are carefully enhancing CABSAT's profile by providing delegates with continuing education on emerging technology and are delighted that several exhibitors have come forward to conduct presentations,' Mr. bin Fahad stressed.

The seminars will take place during the three-day show in the Ras Al Khaimah room above Hall 6 and entry is free for trade visitors.

CABSAT is the pre-eminent show in the region for companies seeking to gain a firm footing in the region's fast emerging cable, satellite and communications sectors which forms the core profile of the event.
