The new drug was introduced at a recent event in the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Dubai.
Simdax will be an important addition to the clinical options currently available to physicians, as, at present, 40 per cent of people who experience an episode of acute decompensated heart failure die within a year. This high proportion has been condemned as excessive by cardiologists, who are hopeful that Simdax will make an impact on mortality rates among sufferers.
'We are confident that the availability of Simdax across the UAE will have a positive effect on survival rates at every stage after incidents of this most serious heart condition and provide us with another vital tool in the treatment of the disease', said Ibrahim Aql, general manager, Abbott Laboratories Middle East.
'Tests reported in the British medical journal 'The Lancet' have shown Simdax to be an important addition to the clinical management options physicians currently have to choose between when faced with a case of acute decompensated heart failure,' said Ibrahim Aql, general manager, Abbott Laboratories Middle East.
The continuing high incidence of coronary heart disease in the UAE makes the introduction of effective new treatments especially important in the country, where the rate of deaths from cardiovascular illness has now outstripped the 25 per cent recorded in 2000.
